Pure Digital has been doing quite well with its popular video camera line Flip and even in the last year they sold nearly $150 million worth of them during the last year. But this time they are facing a new type of challenge that is appearing quite difficult to defeat this time, and this challenge is none other than the new video capable iPhone besides many other video mobile phones.
It appears that the growing popularity of the video mobile phones will make such cameras as Flip totally irrelevant in the coming two or three years.
Before the release of thr MinoHD (released last year) Flip cameras didn’t have anything which could really distinguish them from other cameras. But things changed dramatically with the release of Mino HD that was impressively compact and could capable of taking a lot better videos with its 1280×720 HD video.
In the previous versions of the cameras, software wasn’t quite up to the mark and it didn’t go well with Macs, but now in the new camera it seems to go nicely with the Mac. But the nicest and most joyful thing about the device is that it is available without any cord or wires.
There are many other cameras that have been offered with the same specs and features as can be seen in the Flip, but still with its fast innovation and impressive styling, the camera has managed to keep itself in top even in the presence of so many competitors.
But now another threat is emerging in the form of video mobile phone, which according to some industry pundits, may make the device totally irrelevant in the coming few years. The biggest challenger, in this regard, is none other than the video capable iPhone that seems to bring a revolution in the world of video mobile phone.
With the help of this new iPhone, you can really take some nice quality video (640×480), but the result of the video can’t be compared to Flip one. However, it’s true that it can really take some nice videos, and secondly there is something that you wouldn’t find in the Flip and this is WiFi and cellular connectivity that allows you to upload your videos in the twinkling of an eye.
This is the thing that makes it a lot more useful than the Flip as a video device, but if you want to keep a bit bigger video camera with you in your bag, Flip is a no doubt a good choice after iPhone.
Streaming live video from different services such as Qik and Ustream is another killing feature of the iPhone, as a large number of iPhone users have been making the most of these services for quite some time and it is really a distinguishing feature of the iPhone that makes it the best choice for all those who want to have real fun in short given time.
